Day 1 Arrive in Porto
Welcome to Portugal! Arrive in Porto, a city known for its picturesque landscapes, rich history, and delicious port wine. Take the day to settle in and explore the charming streets and riverfront of this vibrant city. Catch sunset on the Dom Luís I Bridge if you can!
Days 2-3 Porto
Immerse yourself in the cultural treasures of Porto over the next two days. Join a free walking tour to get an overview of the history and the sites to see. Check out the famous and beautiful azulejo tiles at Igreja de Carmo, São Bento Railway station, Porto Cathedral, Iglesia de San Ildefonso, or the Chapel of Souls. Take your time and stroll through the Ribeira district, and savor delectable local cuisine. Definitely try a francesinha and pastel de nata while you are in the area. For sunset, visit the Dom Luís I Bridge, Serra do Pilar, or Jardim de Morro. Don’t forget to tour the famous port wine cellars along the Douro River.

Day 4 Travel to Coimbra
Make your way to Coimbra by bus or train. Flixbus offers the cheapest rides are around $4 if you book ahead of time. Rede Expressos is another bus that drives this route for a slightly higher price. And the train from the São Bento station will also take you to Coimbra for roughly $9. Upon arrival, take a leisurely stroll through its winding streets and explore the plazas.
Days 5-6 Coimbra
Spend the next two days exploring Coimbra’s captivating history and vibrant atmosphere. Coimbra has a stunning ancient university with botanical gardens that are a wonder to explore. Visit the stunning Sé Velha (Old Cathedral) and the captivating Joanina Library. Take in the scenic views from the University Tower and experience the lively student culture that infuses the city. If you are visiting in October you may be able to see the Festa das Latas, a festival for the start of the school year. However, there are tons of things to do in Coimbra no matter the season.
Day 7 Travel to Lisbon
Coimbra to Lisbon is an easy bus or train ride. The Rede Expressos bus offers great prices straight to the Lisboa Sete Rios bus station or Oriente. The train, with a few changes, also goes to the Lisboa Cais do Sodre station. After settling in, take an evening stroll along the Tagus River and enjoy the city’s vibrant nightlife.
Days 8-10 Lisbon
Dedicate the next 3 days in Lisbon. Explore the historic neighborhoods of Alfama and Bairro Alto, visit the iconic Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery, and take the historic Tram 28 ride through the city’s charming streets. Don’t miss the chance to indulge in delicious pastéis de nata! And of course you have to spend atleast a day visiting the magnificent castles in Sintra.
Day 11 Travel to Lagos
The easiest and cheapest way to get to Lagos from Lisbon is by the Rede Expresso bus. Rede Expresso offers direct buses to Lagos for as low as $8 one way. The train can also get you down to Lagos but it may require a train change. Once in Lagos, spend the afternoon exploring the picturesque town.

Days 12-13 Lagos
Spend your last two days in Portugal relaxing on the beautiful beaches, such as Praia Dona Ana and Praia da Camilo. Walk along the picture-esque cliffs at Ponta da Piedade and catch a beautiful sunset here. Book a tour at the Lagos Marina to see the Bengil Caves, an impressive sea save that can only be accessed by the water. While you’re near the Benagil Caves, also check out the nearby Praia Do Marinha and Arco Natural. And if you’re an adventure-seeker, consider trying water sports like surfing or kayaking. There’s plenty of things to do in Lagos for all types of travelers.
Day 14 Departure
